Go to the file you want to open. Go to the context menu either by pressing the right mouse button or pressing the applications key. Select the open with submenu. Go to the choose program option. Make sure the checkbox that says always use the selected program to open this kind of file is checked. Once you've found Windows Media Player in the programs list, press the OK button.
