Just to be clear. Do you have advanced controls checked in volume control?
Sorry I came in a bit late. Under the options menu is a toggle for advanced
controls. Then on the master volume settings an advance option button will
appear. Alot of times you can access the bass and treble slide controls
there.
Again sorry if I'm repeating someone.

Do you have advanced controls in the windows mixer?
My older Creative card didn't have that option till I rebuilt my system.
Then all of a sudden, I had tone controls under the advanced button in the
mixer. Before that, I had to mss around with the Creative Surround mixer,
locking the Jaws cursor at just the right place and using Jaws mouse up
and
down key strokes to get the tone controls to work.
I hope your X-FI installer put in standard tone controls under advanced
controls in the Windows mixer.
