As I recall, to find out which version you have, you press the sleep button
ten times. I have no idea why NLS made it so cumbersome. However, of the
latest two versions, the last involved Mac compatibility and the one before
created the ability to handle more than one book per thumb drive. If the
procedure I described works, you know you have that version. If it doesn't,
perhaps you don't!

Jason,
Assuming you have the current version of the firmware, hold down the play
button for several seconds. The player will speak. You can then switch
between books by pressing the left and right arrows either side of the
play
button. When you hear the title you're looking for, press play as you
normally would (not for several seconds) either once or twice and it will
start.
