Had the same problem with the chat window until I downloaded the newest scripts. Try installing the newest scripts. Not sure of the version.

I just updated skype to the latest version with Jaws scripts using Jaws 11. There are two issues that I know of that didn't happen with older versions of skype. First. In text chat, Jaws used to start speaking the message as soon as it was received. This no longer happens. Now I must root my Jaws to PC and use the arrow keys to read the message. Second. The alt shift O key no longer says how many of your contacts are on line. Instead, it says "unable to get the contact list".
