Hello:
You can, indeed, select which soundcard you want to use in the QuickTime
preference options; however, it simply uses the Windows basic soundcard
settings to perform that task. Thus, when you select a different soundcard,
you simply switch Windows itself to that card. I don't know if QuickTime
Pro will allow one to choose a different soundcard but I have not been able
to find any information concerning that matter.

I think you only need pro if you plan to record audio or video in
QuickTime.
You can change the sound card in just QuickTime.
