Hi! I sent this to the Viphone list so apologies for those who have already seen it, thought that pc-audio members may be interested as they can probably think or dream up some sort of variation to suit there own needs.
Here's a little tip I stumbled across, amazing what you think of when you've had a cat nap of about 20 minutes <smile>. Got a whole heap of books or mp3 files on your computer? Got a favourite player on your computer that works just the way you like it? Like your Iphone near you on your pillow or your bedside table? Wish there was a simple way of playing the books you've been playing them for years through your Iphone? Well try this solution. Purchase the Airfoil software http://www.rogueamoeba.com/ 2 versions are available, 1 for Windows and the other for Mac, you can buy a licence for both versions as I've done if you prefer. The Mac version is very accessible though Windows users will have to do some button labelling with their Screen reading Software. So what does Airfoil do? Airfoil will "Hijack" an audio application or source and stream that over your Wi-Fi network, for example you could Hijack Winamp on the PC or VLC on the Mac and have Airfoil stream it across your Wi-Fi network. So now you need the Speakers app for the Iphone which can be downloaded from the Itunes store, when this App is launched from your Iphone, Airfoil sees it so you can transmit your hijacked audio source to it and there you have it, play books the way you're used to from your computer and hear them on your Iphone. If you're using Winamp then perhaps you could enhance the experience by downloading and installing Iamp Remote which will allow you to control Winamp from your Iphone, Speakers will run happily in the background whilst you use the App Switcher to toggle to the Iamp Remote app. I myself use VLC with the Apple remote controller here but that's my preference and I'd be interested to hear what other options people have come up with and are using.
