Howdy,
Thank you. I wrote to Goldwave, hoping they could help.
I didn't know that you can't use an external USB CD drive with Window's XP.
Just in case anybody ever has the same problem, I have pasted Goldwave's
answer to my problem.
Here it is:
"Do you have an external USB CD drive and are you using Windows XP? There
is a known problem with the USB driver in Windows XP that can cause the
computer to crash. You'll need to use other CD software, like iTunes or
Windows Media Player to copy audio from a CD on such computers."

Hi, Mark and List,
Just to be sure we're on the same page, go to tools by pressing alt-that.
Then select cd Reader and press "enter."
From what you write, that's what you're doing. I wonder if perhaps you're
running Windows 7 and using a version of Goldwave which is not compatible
with that operating system.
If this isn't the problem, I have to guess that your copy of the program
is corrupted. Get another copy and uninstall the current copy before
installing the new download.
I rip cds occasionally and have no difficulty.

Subject: Question about goldwave, CD reader.
Howdy,
I just got Goldwave, and I am still learning how to use it. I tried to
rip a CD, using the Goldwave CD reader. When I hit enter on the "menu
item" CD reader, my computer made a very strange noise, and then
restarted. I tried it several times with the same result. I am pretty
new at this computer stuff, but I really don't think it is an operator
problem. I hope someone can help.
Mark
