Audacity is free and will do this for you. ALternatively, you could use goldwave. You can maximise the volume, perform amplification, and while you can't actually increase the quality of the recording you can use filters to bring out certain frequencies more that you think you're not hearing, so long as they were actually captured in the original recording. ----- Original Message ----- From: "E." <thot...@earthlink.net>

Subject: volume increase on .wav file

I have a recording where the speaker did not stand anywhere near the microphone. The volume is very very low. Is there software I can use to increase the sound so I can at least hear what is being said? I may also need to increase the quality of the recording. But, to know this, first I need to hear the recording.
Thanks for assistance.
Elizabeth
