Yep point taken but the Sangean I mentioned certainly does perform as most Sangean radio sets do, just take a look at the reviews for the Sangean wooden cabinet radio at the CCrane web site.

Actually there are a few models of these and CCrane has the digital model. I have both the digital and analogue models and there's also one which is stereo with CD/MP3 player etc if you want to go that far.

All these tabletop radios have "Tuned speakers" with excellent bass and treble characteristics. Yep, you get what you pay for here, think the going price for the wooden cabinet tabletop radios start at around $220.00 but they're well worth it if you want something high performance and high quality - not to mention good looking - on your table, bench, bedside or whatever, just not comparable to portable sets.

Well, it depends what you want. I've used portables as table radios before.
If you want something to match the woodwork in your kitchen, then these
won't work, you are right. I have not used the Sangean in a wood cabinet, and
maybe that's going to do the job, but my experience has been that radios
that look nice tend not to perform, althoug they can sound very nice.<smile>

Hang on, these are portable radios and not a table or tabletop radio, there's
quite a difference.

Don I'd recommend the cc radio e p from c crane. It's a portable am/fm analog
radio that costs about $70. It has very nice tone and sensitivity and works
well on both bands. On

I am looking to find an A M F M table radio which doesn't cost much more
than $100 U.S. The primary considerations are sensitivity, selectivity,
image rejection, and of course sound quality. Although I don't really
care whether it is PLL or analog, I doubt that much analog stuff is
being manufactured. Obviously, for a bit more than $100, I am not going
to find a great radio. But please tell me what gives the best bang for
the buck.

Incidentally, the unit does not need to play CDs or have audio inputs.

Thanks for ideas.
