Hello all, I suppose this might be another question that is seen as tangential to the list, but I hope it isn't out of bounds. I'm now debating between two laptops, one of which has a quad core i7, the other has an i5 duel core processor. In all other respects, the machines are the same. I am really interested in some of the new speech engines that are becoming available, for use with certain screen readers, but understand that they do require considerable horsepower. And I also understand that a quad core processor may not make any difference at all if the programs you use can't take advantage of it. I plan to use this machine for lots of audio, but not heavy editing, and for scanning/ocr. My gripe with the more resource-intensive speech has often been that it is notably more sluggish than the hardware synthesizer I've used for ages. So I wonder what you all think about the value of the upgrade to the more expensive more powerful processor. It is more expensive, but not grossly so right now. Thanks in advance for any opinions you care to offer.
