Well, you're correct in a sense.  There is still an option.  The recorder idles 
in record standby.  The headphone output can be fed either into an analog 
device or to the input of a sound card and hence, a connection to a computer.  
It's not exactly a Usb solution but it's workable.

A note of caument.  There is no mechanical isolation for the mikes so the unit 
is highly susceptible to handling noise.
