Freemake Video Converter is a good program to use and it is free. find it
at:
www.freemake.com
You just go to the file menu and enter on select video.
then go to the convert menu and select avi.
Next I assume a dialog will appear where you can edit the settings. I have
only converted to audio but assume the same type dialog would come up for
video as well.
with this program you can also save YouTube videos and videos from a lot of
sites.
