Then, is it a card thing or a driver thing? Idon't see it on my lap top.
Well, didn't see it when it had Win 7. Though there's no reason it should be
gone with Win8 is there?

no, stereo mix is not gone in windows 7, it is just turned off. I know, use
stereo mix, all the time in windows 7 64 professional.
