This is the latest in my collection of radios and its without doubt one of the
best portable DAB/DAB+/FM radios I own.

The radio at a glance evokes interest, a wooden cabinet, metal speaker grilles
either side of a control panel on the front, nice big purposeful buttons with
well define clicks along with 2 jog dials the click precisely when turned,
perhaps a "well crafted" radio would fit the description for this magnificient
looking beast.

Indeed the radio does look like a beast sitting on your bench or table boldly
and beautifuly, reminds me of those wonderful old radio cassette recorders we
had back in the 70s.

The Pure Evoke 2S can be run on either AC mains or an optional rechargeable
battery pack that gives around 20 hours of battery life.

Sound from the radio is by far the best I've heard in a portable digital radio
and so it ought to be given that the 2 tweeters and 2 mid range drivers are
driven by 2 Class D 15 Watt digital amplifiers, added to this is the built-in
sub-woofer system, tone for this radio is completely customisable.

The control panel is a simple layout, below the 2 jog dials are 6 tuning preset
buttons, 5 of these will take you instantly to a preset station whilst the 6th
gives you access to 50 further presets which you can move through with the jog
dial, the 5 instant preset buttons are easy enough to set, just tune to the
station and hold the appropriate button fot 5 seconds.

I like the antena design, at first glance the antena looks to be a standard
type telescopic whip however it can be removed to reveal a F connector, great
if you're using the radio at home connected to an outdoor aerial.

Time shifting is at the heart of this radios design, press the pause button,
wash the dishes and press the pause button again to resume listening from where
you left off. Missed a phone number? Press the pause button and use the right
jog dial to rewind backwards through the audio.

I've set up the "Listen Again" feature, the radio will allow you to record 2
programmes at predetermined times for you to play later at your convenience.

Though setting this function has to be done through the menus the procedure for
doing it is well described in the manual but you must remember the position of
the recordings, when you wish to schedule new recordings the old settings are
not erased until new settings are entered thus the settings don't have any
default.

The radio has 2 alarms, wake to your favourite DAB+/DAG=FM station or to a
buzzer.

Line-in and out are offered obviously and one wouldn't expect anything less
from a quality set such as this.

I think I can safely say that it will be a good while before any manufacturer
brings out a model to rival the quality of the Pure Evoke 2S, much thought has
gone into both the detail and design of this radio, if you purchase one then I
can't see any reason why you shouldn't be still enjoying it years from now
given not only the outstanding build and audio quality but the USB port that
allows for updating of the firmware.

Note this radio will probably not be of use to anyone living in the U.S.A as it
is not compatible with the HD systems used there, the pure Evoke 2S is
compatible with both DAB and DAB+ standards.
