Yep, a good read for anyone interested and i think most people on the
list would be, just take a glance at the article and you'll see why.
I've lost count of exactly how many DLNA devices I have around my home,
everything from the WD My Cloud to my Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound
receiver to the Denon Cocoon Portable Wireless speaker, My Mac and
Windows computers, my Samsung Note4 phone amongst others.
I'll recommend some Apps and software people may wish to try, for the
Windows computer a good third party App is Jamcast, this App will bring
in media content from other sources and stream it to compatible DlNa
Devices.
Media Connect Premium for the iPhone, this App will find content on DLNA
Media equipment and allow you to play it to the iPhone or a DLNA device.
Arc MC for the iPhone will allow you to both find media content on your
DLNA Media servers or drives and output that content to a DLNA device
such as a Wireless Speaker, Surround-Sound receiver etc.
Aircast for Android allows the streaming of content from a source - DLNA
Media Server, Googledrive, Dropbox etc - to a DLNA or Airplay device.

Dane and others have talked about DLNA and it might still be a little vague as
to what it's all about.
I found this article in PC World that explains a little more about it and
thought it might be helpful.

There is an annoying video that plays at first, but read the article for more
information.
