Hi!
This headset often comes up for discussion here, I did own one but no
longer do for 2 reasons, firstly because of the build quality and second
because of the lack of control a user has when using Skype - Skype is my
main means of communications -.
I've found better wireless alternatives available but more about them
for anohter day and another thread.
I was looking through various posts on forums and found the below which
may be of interest to those who do still own the Logitech H800 Headset
and who seeking clarification as to what the issues are with Skype, see
below.
<snip>
I've seen this issue covered a number of times over the past year and
here's what I can tell you: :
Personally, I've had the H800 for almost a year now and can tell you
from reading forum replies across this and other sites, nobody has found
a replicable solution for using the play/pause button on the H800
headset to answer/hang up calls on Skype, regardless of the OS/Skype
ver./Bluetooth/USB dongle/etc. In other words, no successful combination
of Skype+OS+PC settings has ever been described on these forums. Some
claim to have had success with the Play/Pause function but no other
users have been able to verify what "combination" of OS/PC/Skype
resulted in a working button. Some have also suggested enabling hotkeys
in Skype, which also does not work (pressing the Play/Pause button to
change the default hotkeys in Skype (under the
Tools>Options>Advanced>Hotkeys) will display a "B" "C" or "G" but
nothing on the headset will actually register as the intended keyboard
shortcut).
While I am overall happy with the range and battery life of the headset,
the lack of the Skype functionality is one of the most noticeable
disappointments. Anyone who has had to minimize/close multiple open
windows or scramble for the mouse to answer a call will wish the
function worked on their $80 wireless headset. Perhaps most
disappointing has been the lack of a clear position stated on the
Logtiech forums that the none of the H800 buttons work for Skype. Quite
simply, the H800 headset buttons do not control any Skype functions,
regardless of anything. Llike others, I've had technical support also
confirm that H800/Skype does not work. However, aside from this, let me
say that my prior experiences with Logitech customer service, on the
phone and through email, is nothing but stellar. If the lack of a Skype
functionality button is a deal-breaker for you and you already got the
headset and have been frustrated by misleading/contradictory statements
on the Internet, the best route really is to contact customer service
directly and see what they can do for you.
tl:dr - The advertising and packaging suggests being able to control
Skype functions via the H800 headset buttons. However, as of now, the
buttons on the headset do not function on anybody's Skype, regardless of
PC/OS/Skype ver./Dongle/Bluetooth/Drivers /Control Panel settings/Hotkey
settings/Windows/Mac/Audio drivers.
