I’m not specifically sure about the Open Source stuff with Linksys, I know 8 
years ago there was no problem with it.

Anyway if you can find out if the Linksys router will support open source 
firmware, if so then its more than likely that the firmware of the Router will 
be accessible and - if it ain’t - then it can be usually fixed inside 24 hours 
to a week.

I like you switched from Linksys to Apple 8 years ago but that was then and 
this is now, a lot has changed and Apple - whether deliberately or not - just 
haven’t kept up with the changes when it comes to Airport Extreme.
