Optical to analog

By asking this question, some listers may think that I have spent the 
past several years under a rock.

I am wondering whether there is such a thing as an optical to analog 
converter.  My new Samsung smart tv has what I am certain is an optical 
audio out plug.  And, since my stereo system is truly antiquated and has 
no optical connector, I need a means of patching the tv into the stereo 
system.  If there is such a converter, I would appreciate brand 
recommendations along with approximate cost in U.S. currency if possible.
