Hi!
Before I describe my irritation with IOS I'd like to make it clear that
- even though I have annoyances with IOS - that is all they are,
annoyances and I'm in no way demeaning the IOS platform, I'm writing
these notes to the list so others may be aware of the pitfalls of a
platform whether that platform be IOS, Android or anything else, the
best way for anyone to make any decision on technology is to have all
the facts at hand or some hands on experience to back up a decision.
My latest gripe comes with the Dropbox App.
I have a Dropbox Pro account which gives me 1TB of space, just perfect
for all my audio archives, Music, comedy, documentaries or whatever else
I choose to make available to me wherever I venture on the planet -
given the amount of storage this may include Lossless audio formats such
as FLAC. -
So with my FLAC collection now online I decided as you all know to play
a few tunes in my location away from my home network through dropbox, I
had both devices - Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 - with me at the
time and I was itnerested to see which would work best using the Dropbox
App to play FLAC files.
As I wrote at the time, VLC did very well on the Samsung Galaxy S6
through Dropbox, I double-tapped the track I wanted to hear was then
presented with a screen which allowed me to select the target player
App, I like VLC though I could have selected others.
There's a minor issue here, I can't get the choice to stick as a default
but I'm sure I'll find a workaround this.
So now to the Appl and everything looked simpled enough on the surface
and looked exactly the same as on my Galaxy S6, browse to the song you
want to hear and double-tap so imagine my surprise with the iPhone with
Dropbox came up with an erorr message, no chance to select an App at all
even though my iPhone did have a few Apps that would have happily played
FLAC files.
Once again, I was inferiated by the rottin and sometimes seemingly
sensless restrictions Apple put on IOS.
