Hi!

As list members may be aware I purchased a new phone system a month back in the form of the Gigaset DX800, a few weeks have gone by since I purchased the phone so I've had plenty of time to put the phone through its paces so thought I'd make a couple of comments regarding the system.

Firstly, if you're one of those people who are absolutely obsessed with accessibility then this system may not be your choice given the system has a whole heap of features and functions that are not accessible.

Having siad that however the audio quality from this system is pure gold absolutely - whether using the phone for VOIP, PSTN or ISDN telephone calls - i've rarely heard a phone with audio quality as good as this - whether on the speaker phone, cordless handsets or, headset or paired mobile - so if you value your audio and your communications then you will certainly appreciate what the Gigaset DX800 has to offer.

Just because some of the functions of the DX800 aren't accessible doesn't mean that the phone system isn't practical and useful, you can still make and receive calls for example, select your outgoing line for calls easily, answer all incoming calls easily, configure the phone system to just how you want it - 6 VOIP lines, 1 PSTN line, multiple paired Bluetooth Phones and so on -.

You cannot view eMail on the phone and the only way that problem could be overcome would be if Gigaset were to employ some sort of TTS strategy and that's not likely to happen.

I've imported contacts into the phone and I know I can scroll through them using the up/down arrow keys so its just a matter of remembering the order in which they appear.

So in closing I'll say that just because something isn't perfectly accessible doesn't mean its a very useful and good quality item. I had the unfortunately pleasure - audio quality wise - to be speaking with someone on his very accessible Panasonic phone, he raved about it but I had to strugger to comprehend what he was actually raving about, audio on that Panasonic phone was purely awful, sounded as though the chap was talking through a box of tissues, well if that's an accessible Panasonic phone then you can stick your phone as far as I'm concerned <smile>.
