Hello College Sailing, Today the ICSA Board of Directors met via conference call and approved moving the 2017 College Sailing Spring National Championships to the College of Charleston on May 22 - June 2, 2017.
Late last month, University of Wisconsin found it necessary to withdraw their support for the 2017 Chicago Championships due to purchasing limitations beyond their control with the WI state government. As a result ICSA and Chicago Yacht Club no longer had the needed support and fleet to successfully host the championships in Chicago. The ICSA Championship Committee unanimously accepted a revised bid from College of Charleston, and the ICSA Executive Committee as approved the Charleston 2017 bid, essentially advancing Charleston's hosting of the championships to 2017 from 2018. After the ICSA Executive Committee's initial approval, College of Charleston's Greg Fisher was able to obtain the support of the Charleston Convention and Visitors' Bureau and the adjust dates to the traditional timeframe that had originally been scheduled for 2017. I know they are disappointed not to be hosting the championships this coming spring. I also appreciate the quick response of the Championships Committee, the College of Charleston coaches, and Charleston sailing community. I look forward to seeing on the water.
