Saturday, March 10The day started off around 10:15 with a beautiful 7 knots out of the West and virtually no current. Shifts, chop, and light breeze made the first few races dynamic, and challenged the sailors to find a groove between the puffs. As the day progressed, the wind picked up and began shifting to the South, which delayed the racing for a few minutes as the race committee shifted the course left. Leading up to the lunch break, puffs of up to 20 knots made the racing more physical. After 6 races, each division took a much-needed break as we assessed the conditions. Around 2 o’clock, the wind shifted further South, and they were able to finish 2 more sets. After 10 races with a variety of conditions, the Cougars have a comfortable lead on the fleet with Jacksonville in second. There are 5 races to be sailed tomorrow, but the morning looks like it’ll be a drifter, so it may be tough to get them all off. Overall, it was a challenging, but exciting day.
