Actually we have a collection manager (who dat?), and as long as agriculture
(yes agriculture, not basic research!! and really only agriculture having to do
with California!! so my reduction possibility to only economically important
species is valid) is important we will be around. And Ag is very big in
California. Sometimes I think we are better off than some of the University
collections, who have big cuts and will see less and less money…(That I give
you!) We would even accept a Tenebrionid collection, although we have a pretty
good beetle collection already ;-)

Yeah, yeah Matin, but you guys don’t even have collection manager and are
TOTALLY subject to Legislative whim at the Capitol! Who knows how long the
collection will be maintained and not reduced to only representative specimens
of nozzelhead importance!

Right, do not give anything to CAS, BM and all the other collections, because
there is a great collection in Sacramento, with 12 Entomologists (real ones!)
and several international postdocs, collection managers etc… We are always open
for donations and we have the capacity to house, curate and maintain them.:

I have and will continue INSPITE of the administration that continues to cut
research funds as long as Penny and others try to maintain the collection.
Where to donate? Not the Smithsonian since many collections are collecting dust
because they are not being curated.

This is one of the main reasons I am seriously thinking of not eventually
donating my collection to CAS!

Fellow PCES members, about the state of the museum collections from the 1950s
to 2012 ! Please delete if already aware of them.

The 2012 article was sent to me by the Author, Dr. Mound. The Ross article is
a classic! Seems similar to other facilities—emphasis less on “research” by
consolidating specialties, space and emphasis on public outreach, not research.
