This is soooo far OT that I'll probably get stoned to death, but I have no
idea where else to go. And you folks are just so smart and friendly ;-)

My story: I picked up a Sun SPARCstation LX at work for free - rescued from
the dumpster. It came with all the goodies - 411 ext hard drive, keyboard,
mouse, mousepad, 19" display, AUI transceiver... no CD, though, but i can
hook up an external scsi cd-r i have to work as the cd-rom. Anyway, when it
boots (SunOS 4.something or other) it expects to find a certain server on
the network. It doesn't appear to be net booting, but i have so little
experience with these machines (and no one at work does either - that's why
they were headed to the trash) that i don't know how to get around this.
Each time it boots it looks for the server, can't find it, and keeps trying
to find it on the network. It won't even get to the prompt. nada. just
looks for the server.

Can anyone help me get past this? Maybe reset settings on the box to
default so it will forget the server? Or something like a "safe mode" where
it disables all the services? I know NOTHING about SunOS or sun boxes...

I'll also accept suggestions on where to look online or elsewhere.

Thanks for answering off list! I don't want to choke up everyone's inbox
more than I already have!

Thanks and sorry!
Drew
