you CAN synch you computer clocks on your LAN!

http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=2563&db=mac (MacDCF77)

..."At the same time, the time server included in the network edition
of MacDCF77 can synchronize any number of Macintosh computers over
the network..."

I don't know much more then what it says on the page about macdcf77,
but I would think it would be easyer (but it would cost money).

Essentially what you want to find is a ntp server. You can also use daemon
(ftp://ftp.stairways.com/other/daemon-12.sit).

..."implementing several simple unix daemons, namely Finger, Whois,
Ident, Daytime and NTP (time). It runs as a background only
application and answers queries to those services..." (macorchard.com)

It will run in the background so you have to be careful to know if
its running, although it is free! You would have to sync the clock on
the "server" mac (the one with the modem), disconnect. Then run
daemon AFTER disconnecting and switching your network settings for
you LAN. Then have the other mac's talk to it. Its in date&time,
server options, add server, put in the "server's" ip,etc.

You can use peek-a-boo (http://www.clarkwoodsoftware.com/peekaboo/)
will allow you to see it running (and do several other useful things).

Hope this helps!
thanks
Ian
