Bob, Jason, et all Thanks for the suggestions (I am on Digest, hence the delay). Bob, the Starmax has the original 2 Gig drive, plus a 30 Gig Maxtor, partitioned into three drives. The one named MAIN is, not surprisingly, the startup - the others hold mainly digital pictures and dowloaded music. So, Jason, it's a reasonable suggestion, and I have opened the control panel and made sure MAIN is selected as the startup. It seems to have done the trick, although it's too soon to be really sure. As for the Zip, it has a terminator installed on it, being the only external device (the scanner is on the 8600). Thanks for the help.
