I am in the same position as you and have decided to get the ide card
and a couple of drives. The main reason is total cost. The cards will
support 4 drives (I think ) so there is plenty of room for upgrading
later. Also the card and drives can be put into a secondhand old machine
eg 7200, and used as "slaves" on an ethernet network - thats what I will
be doing, because I wont need the access to be particularly fast, and I
can upgrade to a 100baseT ethernet card at a later date if I want faster
transfer.
