------------------------
I'll just throw this out because of my most recent
experience. I once had similar symptoms when an internal SCSI Zip
drive died and was messing up the SCSI bus. And more recently I had
very similar problems when my Yamaha CD burner went out. Antytime I
tried to run an installer or updater, they would quit. Although if I
tried them a second or third time they would work.
So, if I were in your shoes I would unhook that IDE Zip
drive just to see. And if that doesn't fix it try unhooking the CD
reader as well.

------------------------
No, the Beige's run OS 9.04 and 9.1 just fine. But, (and
this is just my experience) Beige G3's, once they develop "Problems"
often need a motherboard replacement.

------------------------------
Using Apple Drive Setup you can only do zero all data on IDE
drives. Both options are available on SCSIdrives.
If you have wiped your hard drives and zero'ed all data and
made a fresh install of the OS and the problem persists, you have
probably got a hardware problem.
