In fact, I have removed that performa chip, now, and the difference in
performance is astounding. more plugins in protools, faster drawing, zooms
are instantaneous, switching between edit and mix screens is much faster.
with the performa's chip, plugins would take forever just to draw, and the
meters in the background were about 2-3 beats behind and were staggering.
i'm getting some new ram today and i hope that the problems don't recur when
i install it, i.e. that this machine just doesn't want any more rams and
thus that the redrawing issues are NOT an issue with the performas older
slower chip. i tend to think that the 9600 will love the new edo and that it
just found the performas mem unpalatable. i will let you know.
