Reeds, have you waited a few minutes for the machines to boot?  Sometimes the 
ramchecker will take a while to count all the new memory...so you should wait a while 
for these machines to boot, and if after around 10 minutes they haven't 
booted...well...then there's probably something wrong with the memory...

List: am I right?  I'm pretty sure...but someone back me up.

And if the machine does boot up eventually, check the system profiler and see if the 
appropriate number of ram is shown, then turn the ramchecker off.  That will let the 
machine boot faster.
