Both switches and hubs can connect several computers. The hub divides
the bandwidth equally, at all times. The switch assigns bandwidth to the
computer that needs it, when it needs it. Switches allow the computers
to function at faster speeds. Switches are better. Nowadays the price
for a switch and a hub are nearly the same.
BOTTOM LINE: Get a switch, it is better.
