I have an "unsupported" OSX install on an 8500.

When I boot into OS9, I can run my "350MHz" PowerLogix G3 just fine
at 400MHz, 2:1 backside cache ratio. (Heck, it runs at 440MHz/2:1 in my
PowerCenter.) However, when I boot into OSX, it hangs very early in the boot
process -- even before the monitor gets the grey screen. The hard drives
will click/whir repeatedly in sequence, as if it's trying to scan the scsi
bus, doesn't find what it likes, and repeats again and again.

If I drop the clock speed down to about 260MHz, it will boot just
fine. I can crank the ratio up to 3:2 when I do, but OSX is a bit on the
slow side.

Anybody else have difficulties running their G3 upgrades at the
same speed that they get under classic, or difficulties running at the
"advertised" speed?

(Oh, I've been using Ryan Rempel's cache software. Also, I ran the
8500 with no motherboard cache when the G3 was installed. Lots of pram
zaps, cuda resets, cuda resets with battery removed, etc. etc., all to no
avail.)

Thanks!
-Greg
