Try visiting http://56k.com. They have a phone line test that can say
whether your line is capable of good data speeds. Chances are that if the
modem is known to be good at another location, it has little to do with the
modem itself. Try unplugging other telecomm equipment. (answering machines,
cordless phones, anything plugged into the phone out jack of your modem)
Finally call your phone company and complain about the poor line quality.
