Hi,

I have a friend with an 8600 running 9.1 with standard CD ROM aboard (24X
I think?) - it has recently stopped mounting CDs. The drawer will open,
but when closed, the CD won't spin up, the green light stays off, and
nothing mounts. I can't get it to boot from an OS CD either. Seems to be
a hardware problem.

Personally I have a PowerBook 1400 and I know that there is a similar
issue whereby CDs won't mount, and a small adjustment of a screw
underneath the drive tray can cure it. Is there any such adjustment worth
trying on the 8600 internal CD ROM before we consign it to the dumpster?

I'm a digest user, so I would really be grateful for a direct reply to:

I'm going around to his place now to help, including installing a G4
upgrade!

Many thanks,

Cotty
