You say that you have invested thousands of dollars into this system...Does
that mean that you have upgraded the processor to a G3 or G4? If you have
then the max amount of ram that you can have will only be 1.12GB. Any G3 or
G4 upgrade card does not like it when the ram is interleaved. The dimm
slots in your machine are labeled: A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, and B1, B2, B3,
B4, B5, B6. When ram is interleaved, this means that there is the same size
chip in the corresponding slot. For example: if you have a 128meg chip in
A1 and another 128meg chip in B1, then the ram is interleaved. Interleaving
ram can enhance the speed of the ram. But since all G3 and G4 upgrade cards
do not like interleaved ram, you cannot interleave the ram.. I have a 9600
and a Daystar Genesis(which is based off of a 9500) that have both been
upgraded to G3's and the max amount of ram in each machine is 1.12GB. That
is 6x128meg and 6x64meg. I have the 128's arranged in slots A1-A6 and the
64's are in B1-B6. This seems to be the best configuration in my
experience. I do recommend OWC's memory. I have had nothing but success
with the company. I have 2.24GB of OWC's memory installed in these 2
machines alone and I am satisfied. I do have other ram from OWC installed
in other machines too.
Thanx,
Chris Anderson
