ZIF stands for zero insertion force, and it is a description of the processor
card holder, as it takes little force to install it. There is a big bar that you
lift to pull out the processor that was originally used on the beige G3.

When the daughter card that holds the 604e processor is pulled out of the 9500
(or other PCI macs that use daughter cards) you can put in a ZIF carrier card,
and then install most any speed G3/4 processor into the carrier.

It's the upgradeable upgrade.
