Wait everybody!

Cannot lose a gun, it's still there impotent caused by external
problem! If heater blows you lose all red, green and blue because
the heaters (orange glow) is wired in series (like the xmas light
string) if any of three heaters opens up, tube won't work, basically
toasted. Otherwise if one or more color lost but others still lit
that means the wires opened or shorted out or electronic component
went poof and all of this are repairable.

Monitors loses the one or more colors caused by:

1. bad RAMDAC on video section, swap monitor or try on another
'puter to check.
2. bad connection - wiggle plugs to see and check for any bent pins
if cable is permanently attached - replace the cable.
3. bad internal wiring in video cable - if removeable, try another
cable or if monitor ha permanent attached video cable replace the
cable on the monitor by tech. They fail frequently if flexed too
sharply for long time. 4. bad solder joints inside monitor. 5. Dead
component(s) in video path inside monitor.

2, 3, 4 and 5 requires tech to repair these. Doesn't have to be
apple authorized. A decent monitor repair shop can do this.

Sheesh, somebody who have the 700 bux sony monitor send it to repair
shop for diagnosis!!

If somebody have a monitor w/ colored fog and lines in it can be
fixed too. It's shorted gun (in effect turned on full) and needs to
be zapped to blow open the short or bypass the short.

If you have a very dim monitor that blooms and becomes very blurred
if turned up contrast and brightness the tube is at near death. This
very dim condition and open heater are only two items means instant
junk after correct diagnosis by a monitor tech.

I got some more time from a dim hi res Mac monitor by boosting the
heater voltage up a bit. But knew this won't last very long.

Cheers,

Wizard
