You don't need Office 98 to use the PowerPoint Viewer. It's a stand-alone app, and it installs the usual MS suspects in your Preference and Extension folders. I have used it on my B&W G3 (OS 8.6) and my 6500/225 (OS 8.1), and I don't have any versions of MS Office on either of them. Some PC-owning friends were sending my wife those pps slideshows that float around the net and she wanted to see them. One strange behavior that I have experienced is that when I open PowerPoint 98 Viewer, it replaces some of the newer extensions that were installed by Outlook Express/Internet Explorer v5. Then when I close PowerPoint 98 Viewer and open either Outlook Express or Internet Explorer, they replace the older extensions installed by PowerPoint 98 Viewer. Its like MS extension tug-of-war between PP 98 Viewer and OE/IE 5 on my very own computer! If someone else on the list knows why this is happening, or, if this is a setting that I can change, please let me know.
