My 9600 (this is the 8500 with added 9600 motherboardthat I've written
about before) has an XLR8 Mach Speed G3 processor card. When I got it,
it was running OS 8.6. I installed OS 9 and 9.1 on top of the existing
installation and it ran fine (wouldn't let me install 9.2, however). But
because the hard drive (an IBM 18GB, SCSI) was partitioned, I decided to
reformat it. Reformatting worked fine with Apple's Drive Setup. But now
I can't install OS 9; I get a message that says I "can't install it on
this computer." I figured this had something to do with the software
for the G3 upgrade card, but when I try to install the latest version of
XLR8's Mach Speed Control, I get a message that says a cache on the
mother board has been detected that has to be removed. I'm suspecting
that I have to install OS 8.5 first, then the Mach Speed Control, then
upgrade to OS 9/9.1. But where do I purchase OS 8.5?

This will be a great computer if I can ever get it to work!
