Per your post you have ONLY this device connected. Right?

Acts like a "non-termination problem.

Have you terminated the drive?

It must be terminated . When you connected the drive,  the built-in 
internal termination for the external Bus  1 is opened. Therefore , you 
must replace this termination at the hard drive.

You also have to set the ID. But since it is a "solo" drive on the Bus 
1 , ID can be any number from 0 to 7.

Go to the drive manufacturers web site for termination and ID jumper 
settings.

Rule of thumb is: the last device in the SCSI bus , either 0 or 1 ,must 
be terminated.

If you have done all of the above, then I pass.
