Thanks to all those who have replied to my questions about my recently-acquired 8500 (9600 motherboard)/XLR8 machSpeed G3/300MHz/18GB/128MB PowerMac. It's now running a hybrid OS 9.1/9.2 with no problems (although I had to slow the cache down a bit to get it to boot up) and 256 MB of inexpensive RAM are on their way to me!
Two new questions: 1. Does anyone have any experience trying to run SoftWindows 98 (v5)? I've installed it on this machine, but it will not run. It opens and displays the Windows start-up screen in its own window, but that's it; no Windows desktop, and the cursor flickers noticeably. I've tried booting the Mac with extensions off, but the result is the same. I realize SoftWindows is no longer supported. is it just not compatible with OS 9? 2. What do we call computers such as mine with all these upgrades? SuperMacs? HyperMacs? MutantMacs? MetaMorphicMacs? GonzoMacs?
