Thanks--I tried Mt. Everything, which will spin the drive down
("Stop unit") but then the drive won't mount after I start it again;
says "disk unreadable." A re-start clears that up but I was
afraid something was getting corrupted.

I'll go look for Sleeper and give that a try.

What about jumper settings? Auto start or whatever it's called---
can I set the drive not to start unless it's told to?
