1) 8.6 is known to corrupt certain older Type 1 fonts. Several utilities were created to fix the problem (or, at least the fonts). Search Macfixit for more information.
2) You may not have gotten all the font files. 3) Word keeps its own internal font list. Try choosing a new printer then go back to Word.
