Exactly correct about the service bureaus and the hack term. I keep slipping with the crack and hack definition.
Your explanation of Type On Call brought back some scary and hostile memories of my days at a leading service bureau.....aarrghhh. So on that note I guess I will file the Norton crack in the dumpster... yahwhl Subject: Re: Adobe Type On Call 4.1 From: Lincoln Dunn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Just to satisfy the Karmic requirements for my next life, I need to point out that this is not a hack -- it's a crack, as in, illegally acquiring access to font files not paid for. The Type-On-Call disc was a (pre-internet) simplified way to buy new fonts in a hurry for design/production houses that would have client work come in with missing fonts (little-known fact -- it is illegal to send the fonts to a prepress/print shop with a file that you create). Unfortunately, it's not a licensed copy of all the fonts on the disc, and, since the fonts are still available for purchase (for those who have deep pockets) from Adobe, it doesn't really fall into the category of "abandoned so cracking is justified" software.
