Micron does not recommend using 64Mb EDO/FPM DRAMs in new designs. Micron
recommends using synchronous devices for designs needing production support
beyond 2002.

Organizations/Packages

Micron's 64Mb DRAM support includes the 4 Meg x 16, 8 Meg x 8, and 16 Meg x 4
organizations. All packaging conforms to current JEDEC standards. The x16
device is packaged in a 400 mil, 50-pin TSOP II, and the x4 and x8 versions
are packaged in a 400 mil, 32-pin SOJ and 400 mil, 32-pin TSOP. Micron's 64Mb
DRAM device is currently shipping in volume.

Modes/Speed Grades

Micron supports Fast Page Mode (FPM) and Extended Data-Out (EDO) on the 64Mb
DRAM.
Micron provides only 50ns speed grades.

... bottom line:

All 168-pin 5-volt FPM/EDO sticks from Velocity Upgrades which utilize Micron
Technology chips are *50* nanoseconds, irrespective of what the label on the
product, or what the web site says, and this design (64 Mbytes, 16 Mbits
depth by 4 bits wide) may be discontinued after this year.

Practically speaking, *60* nsec is the fastest that any stock or G3-upgraded
"legacy" Mac is likely to be able to take advantage of.
