This is something I never could figure out why Apple never had a key combination for extension off that includes the CD rom extension, since so many applications require you to install with extensions off. No one has ever given an explanation for this. I thought it even more mysterious when Apple omitted floppy drives that they didn't have a key combo like shift + C or something like that. The only thing you can do is just do is create a minimal OS setting using the extensions manager and restart from that which just minimizes any 3rd party conflict; but that is kind of a little hassle. Now Conflict Catcher has keyboard configurations from which you can restart from if you like Conflict Catcher or want to fork out the money for it.
