What model computer do you have? I had an 8600 with a G3/366, and I tried to install OS X, and it took me a while, but I finally got it installed. A few things you need to know. If you install OS X on your PCI Mac, and you partition your hard drive, OS X must be on the first partition, if you have a drive larger than 8gb, the first partition must be a max of 8gb, and again, OS X needs to be on this partition.
I liked using OS X, but a few times, when I would run updates, to update it from 10 to 10.04 it would corrupt and I would have to start all over again. That is one thing I will say with OS X, it is very unforgiving when it is trying to install and runs into a problem. But then again, what OS is not unforgiving when it comes to this. I would say go for it, try it out, back up all your data first, and see how it works for you. There are many people who have installed it and have it work fine. I eventually sold my 8600 and bought a desktop Beige G3, which itself, even though it is OS X certified, the graphic chip support is just very basic. I have been using OS X for a few months now, and think its great. One of my favorite things about OS X, is the stability, if a program does crash, force quit it, and continue on. That was another oddity with OS X on my 8600, if a program, lets say IE would lock up or crash, I would not be able to restart it unless I rebooted my computer. But on my Biege G3, if IE crashes, I restart the program and it works fine. Another thing, you will need to install a cache enabler in OS X to get your backside cache to work. I know the author of the OS X Unsupported utility wrote a cache enabler which I used which worked perfect. OS X is a big jump and big change, but if you have a G4, and can get it installed, its well worth it. Today in the mail I am getting a 450 G4 zif, and looking foward to installing that. I currently am using a 500 G3 running at 466 due to system bus. Hope this helps.
