It does however remove the build up of fluff and crud that can get into 
the disk and crap it up *outside* of the heads. Even though the heads 
are the only bit that touch the media the hole that i s opened to allow 
this is wider than the heads on Apple drives (and most others FTM) and 
allows dirt into the disk. Add to that the fact that dust has an uncanny 
knack of transmitting static electricity and you have a recipe for 
disaster. I, personally, strongly advise that if your floppy drive is 
dirty you drive the fluff out with canned air or something like that to 
get rid of pesky fluff.
