I'm trying to get a Performa 476 working. On startup I get the chime and can hear the HD spin up and load the OS. The apple 15' color monitor displays only a partially rendered image of, what looks like, a ghost of the "Energy Saver Star" logo.
After several restarts I got it to boot correctly. It's sys 7.5. I found duplicated control panels, preferences and extensions all over the place and some sort of network tool. I put every thing back into the system folder restarted, worked fine! Then I tried to drag, what I thought was, the last out-of-place item, that system utility, into the system folder and got a crash. No error code. The thing I tried to move was, I think, "PCPutil". I'm probably incorrect about that, I didn't get to see it very long. Tried to reboot with the disc utilities, no go. I just get the corrupted screen image I mentioned at first. The monitor displays that image whether or not the HD is on. Took the CPU to work and hooked it up to the monitor from a 475 and it won't light that monitor up at all. I guess this is cross posting since the performa isn't a PPC, I'm sorry about that if it is. I hope one of you has an idea. If I can get this working I'm going to upgrade it to a Power PC.
