I went to 8.6 primarily because of the requirement to use at least 8.6 for my new ISP. But it turned out that it was their software installer which required 8.6, not their supplied applications, per se. Besides, by manipulating the TCP/IP and Remote Access control panels directly, I could completely avoid their installer and their support applications all together.
